The State of Montana has long since been known as the “Last Best Place” and, if you love the outdoors, the Flathead Valley has it all in one place. Whether you enjoy hiking endless mountains, skiing, biking, golfing, fishing, or boating rivers and lakes… the opportunity for adventure has no end.
Tucked away in northwest Montana, the Flathead Valley is compromised of multiple towns including Whitefish, Columbia Falls, Kalispell, Lakeside, and Bigfork. While each town has its unique persona, residents consider themselves as part of the greater community of the Flathead Valley.
Things To Do
Glacier Park:
Just a forty-five-minute drive away, lies one of our nation’s greatest treasures, Glacier National Park. Known for its towering glaciers and over 700 crystal clear lakes, Glacier National Park’s beauty attracts an estimated 3-4 million people a year.
Lakes:
Look out the window as you fly into Glacier International Airport and you cannot miss the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi, Flathead Lake. While this is the largest in the area, it can be said that beneath every mountain overlooking the Flathead Valley, therein lies a pristine river flowing into a clear lake. Whether you enjoy rafting, sailing, water skiing, or just sitting by the water watching the sun go down, there is a lake in every corner of the valley to partake in those activities.
National Forests:
If you enjoy outdoors, you may consider the 2.3 million acres of National Forest within a short distance of Kalispell, the ultimate playground.
Skiing:
Believe it or not, many consider winter the best time to be in northwest Montana. With Blacktail Mountain Ski Resort and Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort, residents, and visitors of all experience levels, can enjoy over 4,000 acres of inbounds skiing within a forty-five-minute drive of Kalispell.
Cross-country Skiing:
Many cross country ski trails both in the mountains as well as on local golf courses allow for great exercise and enjoyment of the outdoors in the winter season.
The Izaac Walton Inn inEssex, MT only an hour northeast is a wonderful cross country skiing retreat.
Unique dining and shopping:
Each town around the Flathead Valley has its own unique experience including excellent dining, art galleries, local small businesses and unique boutique shopping. Strolling around these towns is also a great way to spend a beautiful summer or winter day.
